Description

Synopsis - American Civil War

On one side: a president, and two anti-slavery campaigners, one of whom would stop at nothing to achieve his ends; and on the other side: a president, a character from a book and an actor with murder on his mind! Will this re-run of the Civil War be won by peaceful or violent means? Read on to find out!

Speakers

Abraham Lincoln - Unionist President

Jefferson Davis - Confederacy President

John Brown - fanatical abolitionist

John Wilkes Booth - actor & Lincoln's assassin

Sojourner Truth  - anti-slavery campaigner

Simon Legree - cruel slave manager (character taken from Uncle Tom's Cabin)

Sojourner:        You can't be talking about Uncle Tom's Cabin? That was a masterpiece!

Booth:              You would say that! And what was your book called?

Sojourner:        ‘Narrative of Sojourner Truth' - though I couldn't actually write it. I left that to Oliver Gilbert.

Legree:             Illiterate, ignorant slave girl! Huh! What could you expect!

Lincoln:            She might have been illiterate but she certainly wasn't ignorant! Just because she chose to spend all her wealth differently from you!

Davis:               A slave with wealth! Whoever heard of such a thing!

Booth:              It's true! That book about her proved a best seller. And she was a very fine lecturer - though I say so myself!

Lincoln:            Well, her words weren't delivered from a script! She spoke out about things that mattered! What a difference she made!

Legree:             Abolitionism! What a cause to follow!

Brown:             And to die for! If you really believe you've been called upon to do the Lord's will, then the means justify the ends!
