Chocolate Assembly for Key Stage One

This is a shorter simplified version of the Key Stage Two Chocolate Assembly. It is a separate script i.e. has different content though the list of chocolates at the beginning is common to both scripts.

Cast size: 30 but easily adaptable up or down

Duration: Around 5 minutes reading time - around 15 minutes with inclusion of suggested songs and song adaptations.

I'm guessing of all my assemblies this one will go down best with both cast and audience!

Don't miss out!

Sample Text:

Class Teacher: Did someone say ‘Cadbury’?

(Whole Cadbury group, Child 1 – 13, cheers)

Head:               But wasn’t there once a Mister Cadbury?

Child 14:          George Cadbury

Child 15:          Born 1839

Child 16:          His chocolates made him rich

Child 17:          But he used his money to help everyone who worked for him.

Child 18:          He built them a factory

Child 19:          In the country

Child 20:          With houses to live in

Child 21:          And schools for the children.

Head:               Did you say factory?

Child 18:          I did!

Head:               A chocolate factory?

Child 18:          That’s right!

Head:               (Getting very excited) Like Mr Wonka? Like in Charlie and the Chocolate Factory?

(Optional Music 3 – Oompa Loompa Song)

Class Teacher: (To Head teacher) But you do realise – Charlie and Mr Wonka and the Oompa Loompas weren’t real?

Head:               (Looking surprised and then ‘collecting’ him/herself) Well, of course I do!

Class Teacher: And did you know there was chocolate - way before Mr. Cadbury?

Head:               (Looking surprised again) There was? I mean, of course I know there was!

Child 19:          Around two thousand years ago in fact!

Head:               Did you say, two thousand years ago?

Child 19:          I did!

Child 20:          The ancient Maya drank chocolate!

Child 21:          So did the Aztecs!

Child 22:          In Central America.

Child 22:          We didn’t catch up til the 16th century!

Head:               Wow!

Class Teacher: Yes, just think of all that chocolate we missed out on!

Head:               Seems to me like we have a bit of catching up to do!

(Head Teacher holds up a large box of chocolates; whole cast gasps and cheers)

Class Teacher: (Tutting) But wait a minute!

(Collective groan from cast)

Class Teacher: (Shaking her head) Now, now, children! You know what you promised me?

(Another collective groan from the cast)

Head:               And what was that, Miss Smart?

Class Teacher: Oh! Just my very favourite piece of music, of all time!

(Whole cast groans)

Head:               Well, I don’t see anything wrong with that?

Child 23:          You don’t have to dance to it!

Head:               Dance to it? Oh how very charming! The perfect way to end your assembly!
