Sample Text:

Balkis:                   Indeed. But I had to know if this little Mrs Butterfly really did believe the yarn her husband had spun her.

Narrator:             And her reply when you asked her?

Balkis:                   I think it went something along the lines of ‘You know what men-folk are like’!

Mr. Butterfly:    (Grunting) Hm. I’m not sure I altogether like the way this conversation is going!

Solomon:             Oh, they’re just telling it as it was! No harm in that. You’ll just have to sit back and listen for a bit!

Wife:                     (Sarcastically, to Mrs Butterfly) So, what other little gems of wisdom did you come up with?

Mrs Butterfly:    Oh, just that it’s usually easier just to humour your man – just go along with what he’s saying, rather than making a fuss!

Wife:                     What? And accept all that nonsense? Oh, there’s no way I’d ever do that!

Solomon:             And don’t I know it!

Balkis:                   You wives – all nine hundred and ninety nine of you – didn’t half make Solomon’s life difficult! Never a thought for anyone but yourselves!

Mr. Butterfly:    (Muttering) Sounds familiar!

Narrator:             But come on! What happened next?

Balkis:                   Well, I suppose I was guilty of a bit of stirring here.

Mr. Butterfly:    (Sarcastically) Oh really? My! That doesn’t sound at all like the female species!

Balkis:                   OK. So we all like to have a little fun at times! And I did have an overall goal in mind.

Solomon:             So wise, my love!

Wife:                     (Snorting) Nothing like a bit of favouritism!

Narrator:             Er, as an impartial observer, I do think the lovely Balkis had earned it! Now, what did you say to Mrs Butterfly?

Balkis:                   I told her that next time her husband made an idle threat or came up with some far-fetched story, she should challenge it. Say that she needed proof – that she wanted to actually see it happening.

Mr. Butterfly:    (Gasping) Setting my wife against me? Well, really!

Mrs Butterfly:    No, not really. I’d prefer to describe it as calling your bluff.

Solomon:             Oh it was priceless. Watching Mr Butterfly squirming under his wife’s command – ‘Stamp! Stamp! Stamp!’

Balkis:                   And how wonderful for me to see my husband so enjoying this little drama, played out in front of him.

Solomon:             Oh I forgot every worry I had in the world!

Wife:                     Even me?

Solomon:             Even you!

Balkis:                   And all the other nine hundred and ninety eight! It was so good to see you laughing
