Description

Scroll down to purchase script and performing rights certificate

Please note: The script is available in word document format on purchase of Performing Rights Certificate. The scripts remain free of performance rights for staging in the class room but as an assembly in front of a non-paying audience you need to buy a single Performance Rights Certificate to cover you for the play you are purchasing.

Two reviews for this assembly:

"Our Victorians assembly was a great success. The script was excellent and the humour went down very well. The length of the assembly was just right and perfect for what I wanted. I have used the short one and adapted it slightly for my class. They are very excited! It's a great service you offer - I shall be back!"

Our Victorians assembly was a great success - thank you so much!   Keep writing Sue!

Victorian School Assembly or Class Play

Meet them .. And the Queen Vic – whoever said you couldn’t combine 19th century history with 21st century soap! Join us as we visit the royal palace where Gladstone serves us with tea; the workhouse where someone dares to ask for ‘More!’; and the classroom where Darwin’s theory goes ‘ape’ and Florence Nightingale is remembered for her limp, not her lamp!

(Also available for this unit, set of 5 guided reading play scripts, with quizzes - Introduction, Life for the Poor, Social Changes, Changes in Medicine and Transport, and Leisure Time - Famous Writers -  see Guided Reading  Play Scripts Section)

For a very lively confrontation between Queen Victoria and Queen Elizabeth I - See Great Monarchs Assembly in Key Stage I section of website. This 'confrontation' is available both as an assembly and as one of my new 'Let's Meet' series - in the case of the latter, Meet Queen Victoria and Queen Elizabeth I.

SAMPLE TEXT

Victorian Assembly

Teacher:

Yes, Mrs Joe Gargery in Great Expectations, was also rather fond of using this (strokes cane fondly) on Kip - She called it her ‘Tickler' (bursts out laughing - kids remain grim-faced). (Pauses) Yes, he really did write a Dickens of a lot of books (falls about laughing - nobody else joins in). (Tuts) Hmm, 15 wonderful novels in all.  The day I see you lot put in that amount of work! He tried very hard to make his readers aware of such things as cruelty to children in factories, mines, prisons and .. school (quickly hides away her own cane).  He knew what it was like because he’d had to work in a factory, covering and pasting labels on pots. And he’d had to visit his own family in prison when his father got into debt. And he’d roamed the streets and mixed with  pickpockets (looking at Artful Dodger) – yes, you! – like in Oliver Twist.

Child 14(squirming in seat): Please, Miss.  I need to go somewhere!

Teacher (Tuts):Lucky for you a Mr. Joseph Bazalgette built such a fine sewage system underground right here in London.

Child 14: Permission to visit it ..urgently!

Child 15: (hand up eagerly to gain attention) Ooh, Miss, I can tell you something else about loos…

Child 14: Oh No!

Child 15: The first public loo  Opened in London in 1852             Needing 2 p pieces instead of just one  It wasn’t much funThe poor didn’t have the dosh  So you could only go if you were posh!  In a month it was closed                 So ..

Child 14 (shrieking) Enough! I’ll pay anything! (dashes off stage).
