Christmas Traditions Lecture Synopsis

This lecture looks at the origins of the Christmas Story before turning to what has become ‘big business’ today, with just the tiniest hint of commercialism, examining pagan and Victorian customs along the way!

Starting with a poem ‘Long, Long Ago’ and concluding with ‘Twas the Night Before Christmas’ this lecture is accompanied by no less than 114 slides, visiting brash Basingstoke City Centre and   gorgeous German Christmas markets; the blinding lights of Ohio USA – 3.5 million lights to a house; returning via the slightly more subdued … Winchester High Street! Not forgetting the sparkling London Christmas Lights from Oxford Circus to the South Bank, via Regents Street (Libertys, Hamleys and Carnaby Street), Piccadilly (Fortnum & Mason), and Leicester Square.

All this delivered by one very sparkly Sue Russell!
