Wild Wild West

Description

 Wild Wild West Assembly

Looking for some peace and quiet? Well, one thing's for sure – you won't find it here! And though there may not be any burghers and chips served up in the interval – did I hear someone mention ‘Golden Nuggets'? With all them gold-diggers around, I'd hold onto your jewellery if I were you! An unscrupulous lot – a right bad bunch … not forgetting those infamous outlaws – The Sundance Kid, Butch and …Jesse! Sure don't envy those sheriffs! And let's hope Buffalo Bill has some good defence lawyers in place when he has to answer to those Native Americans. Hold onto your seats … or hats, and join us on a ride of a lifetime!

The above encapsulates the lighthearted side of this play – as per ‘Cowboys n Injuns'. There is, however, another very serious side which highlights the plight of the Native Americans, back in settler days through to now. This play attempts to look at both sides of the story – addressing the theme of ‘respecting others' and is thus as much linked to Citizenship Skills (PSHCE) as to Social Studies.

Sample Text 1

Billy:

Billy the Kid, that's me! Legend says I killed 27 men! (Aside) Actually, it was only 4, but hey! (Shooting around) Whose counting?!

Narrator: I think it's time we returned to some good law-abiding folk! Not all cowboys were like that lot!

(Enter cowboys)

Cowboys (all): Yeeha!

Cowboy 1: Howdee Partners! (Puffs from cigar, then spits to side)

Narrator: Someone's been watching too many Clint Eastwood movies!

Cowboy 2: You laughin' at my partner? You wouldn't have lasted 5 minutes on one of them cattle trails. 5 miles a day for up to 3 months? I don't think so!
